Proact-Ironscales partnership

Proact partner Ironscales is a multi-award winning email security provider. Featured on Gartner’s Magic Quadrant, Ironscales provides security professionals and end users with an AI-driven, self-learning email security platform to stop phishing attacks in their tracks. Ironscales was set up in 2014 with the goal of delivering a better way to protect against phishing threats at in-box level. Having attracted a number of rounds of capital investment, it is now a highly successful and global organisation.

The Ironscales decentralised threat protection network detects, prevents and remediates phishing attacks in a matter of minutes. It installs in just two clicks and works alongside your existing tools and processes, saving time and money while empowering you to focus resources where they’re needed most.

We caught up with Justin Pemberton, UK Sales Director at Ironscales, to get his take on the security landscape and why the company is experiencing such great success.

Q. How has Ironscales coped throughout the global pandemic?

A. When the first coronavirus lockdown began, a number of our clients were seriously affected, particularly those in aviation, hospitality and the travel industry. Everything paused, but fast-forward seven months and we’ve had our best quarter yet, smashed targets and secured a number of large contracts.

Q. Why do you think Ironscales has been successful during this time?

A. With so many people now working from home, security perimeters have been stretched far and wide, giving hackers more opportunity to filtrate into peoples’ in-boxes. IT teams have reached out to us to support them with our self-learning email security platform to keep staff, personal information and company data safe during these unprecedented times.

Q. How have you been able to help companies during the pandemic?

A. We make it easy for companies to secure their email in-boxes, with just two simple clicks to install our solution. It detects and remediates phishing at scale at in-box level and also predicts new emerging threats, ultimately improving human interaction with emails and saving IT teams hours of time. You can just set and forget – plus there’s no alert fatigue! In addition to helping employees and IT departments, we’re also protecting CEOs; Gartner predicts that 75% of CEOs will be liable for cyber-physical security incidents by 2024.

Q. What makes Ironscales different to other email security providers?

A. Alongside our leading security platform, we also crowd source threat intelligence. This is a unique approach and it means we’re continually learning where phishing threats are coming from, enabling us to address the full phishing attack lifecycle. The security landscape is a crowded place and many vendors make claims they cannot fully deliver on. Yet we fulfil all our promises with an autonomous product that does the heavy lifting for our customers.

Q. What can companies expect when they work with you?

A. We firstly work on a proof of concept followed by a phishing risk assessment, shedding light on what’s coming into an organisation’s inbox. If appropriate we will then suggest implementing a number of elements from our product stack. This may include Themis, an AI-powered virtual SOC analyst who is trained to mimic a real-world security analyst’s email investigation and response process. Plus, within just two clicks it’s all switched on.

Q. How does Ironscales fit in with other security products?

A. Ideally an organisation would have a multi-layered approach to security. You cannot rely on one solution alone and Ironscales functions perfectly alongside other best of breed security products. We are seeing some organisations dropping traditional email gateway security from their stack and focussing on in-box security such as ours instead, and we think this is a trend that’s set to grow.

Q. What are your recent success stories?

We recently worked with ARPR, the Southeast’s largest tech PR agency and one of the fastest growing firms in the country. The agency’s CEO and VP of client service had noticed an uptick in business email compromise attempts and identified improved email security as a primary need. Now, phishing attacks are automatically identified and handled by Ironscales with a dashboard that provides the agency’s leadership team with all the transparency it needs. Our mobile app also allows for the seamless confirmation or rejection of suspicious emails from anywhere.

Another success story is in healthcare, where a highly realistic spear-phishing campaign targeted more than 100 employees across 50 locations. The attack, which was positioned as an email update from the HR department, compelled readers to open a malicious .docx file that injected a cryptoransomware code upon download. As an Ironscales customer, within five minutes of the first email’s arrival, an employee reported the attack as suspicious through the Ironscales active protection Microsoft Outlook button, a one-click process. Ultimately, we completely removed the threat from all mailboxes in 12 minutes and prevented significant financial and reputational damage to the organisation.

Q. Finally, why do you partner with Proact?

A. Proact is exactly the type of partner we prefer to work with. We work collaboratively with them – for example regularly running customer product demos together. Through their managed services solutions they take any problems away from their customers with depth of experience and leading products. They are very easy to work with and their customer service is seamless and smooth. With Proact, it’s much more than just an order. They open up the marketplace for us and add real value for our customers.
